Forgetting

Posted by iN tHe BlOg

As a human, we tend to forget. We might forget a person's name, the past, a familiar place etc. Forgetting is part of our lives. In the definition of forget, it is to lose (facts, knowledge, etc.) from the mind; fail to recall; be unable to remember; to fail to do, bring, etc. as because of carelessness; overlook, omit, or neglect unintentionally don't forget to write; to overlook, omit, or neglect intentionally. In life, it is common for a person to say " I forget about something." This something could be just an excuse, an unhappy event, don't remember to do or say, or even perhaps because of aging.

It is blessing that we can forget and it is also sad to say that we have this ability of forgetting. When we know this usefulness of the ability of forgetting, we can forgive a person. As there is always a saying, "Forgive and forget." Forgive other's mistake and forget what had done. It is a beautiful ability. In the function of the brain, when a person gone through a traumatize experience, a part of his brain will lock and forget about the 'experience'. Unless it was to be awake and recalled again. In a relationship if one party can forget other's fault, they would appreciate each other better. "Forget the past and let us move on together."

When forgetting becomes a serious problem, it is no longer a blessing. It becomes a part in the tip-of-the-tongue experience, when we're at a loss, usually with mouths gaping, for the right word or phrase, "I forget, I'm sorry". As we get older, our memory becomes harder to access and retrieve, and often telling the same stories. It is often easy to hear elders recalling things from the past and sometimes repeat questions that they would want to ask. Regular rehearsal or retrieval of memory is actually helping them to delay forgetting. As a result, memories can last for a lifetime with no appreciable loss of detail. In fact people are more likely to embellish a memory the more often they recall it.

We having this ability of forgetting, it is a blessing. A blessing that pieces of information, experiences that we gone through, we can choose to remember or forget. As we aged, this ability causing hindered, confused, loss. What happen when we don't have this ability and remember every single details that we gone through in our lives? Would our lives be better or would we be suffering? A lot of times, I prefer to forget than to remember. Remember the good and forget the bad.

Turtle Adventure

Sunday as usual, is our family day. My father was thinking his mother in law (which is my grandmother) to Singapore Turtle Museum. Erm.. it didn't seem an interesting place to me. As the last time I remembered being to zoological garden was way back when I was in Primary school. Ever since then, I had never stepped into any places that has animals. Well, after he suggested, none of us had any objections at all.

We went there straight after lunch. Having this thought in mind, "what's there to see about turtles?' As we went in, there were thousands of turtle collectibles, from key chains to dolls to wind charms.. Staying in Singapore for so long, I don't even know there is this Live tortoise and Turtle Museum. As we went to area, we saw tanks, tanks where turtles were kept. Okay, it didn't really attracted me until one caught my attention. I saw this longest neck turtle. I was quite fascinated. I know that there were a lot of different species but all these while I thought that they all look alike. When I never have a chance to see it, I am thinking " Turtles are just turtles. What so fascinating about them?" I was wrong. None of it actually looked the same. The first turtles are believed to have existed in the early Triassic Period of the Mesozoic era, about 200 million years ago. Probably they are our ancestors.

The common ones that we often seen and kept as pet are terrapins. Apart from that, there are species like the most dangerous one known as Alligator Snapping Turtle which looks very much like a dinosaur to me. A pig nose turtle which it's nose looks like a pig. As we were about to explore even more, it started raining. Everything had to stop. We had only seen part of the Turtle Museum. It was so disheartening...

My grandmother could not stay too long as her legs hurt when she walked too much. We had to off a day after that. It was not so much of an adventure after all. Perhaps, it would if we stayed longer. Guess I need to go there again some other days and really take my time to be with turtles. After all, it is not so bad about viewing at turtles. They are rather cute, I would say. Unique and interesting creatures

How you catch a cold

An upper respiratory infection, or cold, is an infection of the nose and throat. Learn how these infections occur and how they're spread.

What Is an Upper Respiratory Infection?
An upper respiratory infection is another way of saying that a person has a cold. A cold is a minor infection of the nose and throat.
Healthy Breathing

During normal breathing, air travels through the nose, down the trachea or windpipe, and into smaller and smaller airways. There are several mechanisms in place along the respiratory tract to prevent foreign particles and organisms from entering the nose and causing illness.

How Illness Affects the Respiratory Tract
One mechanism involves mucus, which coats the inside of the nose and traps unwanted germs that might enter the airways. Cilia are tiny hairs that also help protect the body from germs by pushing out harmful particles that become trapped in the mucous lining.

Catching a Cold
If harmful germs slip by these defense mechanisms and wind up further down in the respiratory tract, they may enter the alveoli. It is here that the white blood cells come into play as they fight the unwanted organisms. At this point the classic symptoms of a cold develop: inflammation, swelling and irritation of the mucous membranes, sneezing, and sore throat.

Spreading a Cold
Upper respiratory infections can be spread by direct contact, by exposure to airborne particles, or by touching contaminated surfaces and then by rubbing the nose or eyes.

Battling with influenza

The two types of illness which I hate most is flu and cough. Living in an Asian country, being infected with the two types of illness are common. So long as anyone who is beside you who is suffering from a flu/cough and you are not strongly immune to it, the chances of getting infected is high. This is what I always say "sharing with others."

Like in the computer games I am playing, I am now battling with this influenza. Finding means of ways trying to get rid of it and win this game. The worst part is not getting it, but is the process of dealing with it. The symptoms are intolerable. I had been browsing through the website and searching what are the symptoms of the flu.

The flu generally lasts anywhere from 2-7 days, with 4-5 days being the most common. People with the flu usually run a fever, have aches and pains throughout their bodies, feel exhausted, congestion, experience severe headaches and may have cold symptoms. These symptoms come on more rapidly than they do with a cold. People with the flu are typically unable to perform daily activities due to the illness.

I am having almost all the symptoms, feeling sick and tired. Battling with this tiny virus is not easy and it just making me not having any mood in doing anything. And the best remedy is to drink plenty of water and sleep, plus not forgetting the flu medicine and consulting a doctor if there is a need to. Cause in a war game, you need to have reinforcement in order to win the battle.

The worse thing is I had to stay at home now as the flu is highly contagious. It is important to avoid other people until I am feeling better. Knowing this responsiblity "Please keep the germs to yourself."
